I use an Olimex 3020 mini pc and plugged a usb lead into the front usb socket but wrong way ie small usb for camera that don't fit but shorted the usb and the pc shut down and wouldn't repower. oh dear. a google search said fuses in the psu so disconnected pc and moved to kitchen table and it powered up?? maybe a thermal fuse that takes 5 minutes but it's ok. is this normal pc usb overload behaviour? |

It's quite possible. Sometimes they use self-resetting fuses or lock-out but reset on the next power up. Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |

sorry.. optplex 3020.. never overloaded a usb before. OK it was £70 sold as refurbished but suits me. win 11 (arrgh) cloned to 240G ssd. 8G ram. core I5. Being compact it's not as easy as a normal desktop pc to work on and dunno where I'd get another psu so glad it reset.. or maybe the mother board reset. |

It's not the PSU that trips usually, it's the USB port protection (if there is any) that shuts it off. Hopefully. :) Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |
