Newbie here from the fascists states of America. Debugging mmbasic pico design using ili9341 on spi. Pico tethered to windows pc over usb, using teraterm app. All is OK until I enter the built in editor to write a test program. When I press the F1 or F2 key to save or run, it performs its windows function such as screen brightness. What do I need to do in order to edit code, other than connecting a keyboard up to the pico directly ??? Thanks in advance for any help. Bob |

There are control key equivalents I think (sorry, I don't use Windows). John |

from the manual Page 20 You can also use control keys instead of the function keys listed above. These control keystrokes are: LEFT Ctrl-S RIGHT Ctrl-D UP Ctrl-E DOWN Ctrl-X HOME Ctrl-U END Ctrl-K PageUp Ctrl-P PageDn Ctrl-L DEL Ctrl-] INSERT Ctrl-N F1 Ctrl-Q F2 Ctrl-W F3 Ctrl-R ShiftF3 Ctrl-G F4 Ctrl-T F5 Ctrl-Y F4 H7FotSF4xGT |

Bob, Perhaps your keyboard is set up so that keys F1, F2 etc are performing the additional functions (brightness, volume etc). If this is the case, press the FN (function) key together with F1, F2 etc. I know Logitech keyboards can default to this and you need the Logitech Logi Options+ program to change the keyboard defaults back to 'normal' behaviour. On one of my laptops, this is the case and the solution. I haven't bothered to try to find out how to fix it (I could ask perplexity.ai)--I just use the "Fn" key with the Function key when what I first automatically do doesn't work. Usually... there is a BIOS setting to toggle the function key behavior. Any given function key will still control the same things. But the user gets a choice of whether the Fn key has to be held down to activate things like Screen Brightness or Volume levels. It will be one way or the other. You can have all the special function stuff assigned to the Function keys active without pressing the Fn key. Or you can have all the function keys produce the expected values without pressing the Fn key. |
