Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

1.
both computer are calculating kind of cellular automaton. algorithm in basic, many if and thens per pixel. picomite ist twice as fast. source code is the same.

video at youtube:

pico is left - cmm2 is right

2. changed demo from matherp for the ray command:
resolution 640x480
same source
cmm2 not in picomite mode
cmm2 is fast and smooth
picomite is slower

video picomite:

I think this is sort of what I expected. I'm not sure about test 1, but in test 2 the CMM2 has dedicated high speed RAM for the video. The PicoMite has to make do with ordinary RAM which, although on-chip, isn't particularly high speed.

I assume that the Pico is a PC3 using HDMI? That may also introduce an overhead over using VGA, I don't know.

The two systems are very different in terms of hardware, even if they are both running similar MMBasic.

Just for giggles, try the Pico with the compiler on if you can. :)

Please post the cellular automation code so I can use it to test. I suspect the difference is that one of the commands is waiting for frame blanking in the CMM2 and not in the Picomite

I updated my cmm2 to 7.00.00b5.

Now the cmm2 is faster than the picomite.

That's only to be expected.
The M series are Microcontroller cores. There are other peripherals on the chip.

Pico:  Arm Cortex-M33 - blend of real-time determinism, efficiency and security
CMM2:  ARM Cortex-7 -   the highest-performance branch for advanced real-time applications.

@matherp

you wrote in the comments to b5 that in the last rc more commands are compiled.

perhaps that is the reason for cmm2 to run faster now.
