Was looking at a battery backup arrangement for MaxiMite to retain Date / Time for a logging application - driving a basic MM without nothing else connected from 6 x 1.2 rechargables into the external power socket was pulling 120mA.
Thirsty little bugger....

I would like to think that within 2 or 3 months there will be Real Time Clocks with battery backup, if you can wait that long Ray.

Don RTC is no longer a problem.... see James post "Script to connect, then set date and time" for users of TeraTerm.

As soon as I switch on using USB date / time is set through a simple macro but yes this is just a work around until we have I2C working to DS1307 chips.

Dallas Semi ds1307, 2 pins, small breadboard, I2C software for the Maxi.

Dallas also makes temperature compensated high accuracy version.

Hi

I have some PCB's for some of the popular RTC chips, with battery backup, waiting for the IIC commands though !

This PCB was designed to fit on the back of a colour TFT display, also using IIC commands.

The DS1307 is limited in IIC speed to 100KHz I think, which may or may not be an issue.
