Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Good News!

Frank have add CAN support the comands are described HERE

CAN BASIC demo code is HERE

Ken will update the firmware and post the source and HEX to the firmware update thread.

The CAN support opens a lot of interesting application.
CAN is just one very reliable networking protocol for noisy environments and used in every car and many Industrial robots.

CAN now allow many DuinoMites to talk to each other via CAN bus by just two wires.

CAN also is used in the cars, all sensors, actuators, Engine ECU read and write info via this protocol, so by connecting to this bus you can read your engine temprature, RPMs, fuel consumption and every car sensor info and build something like THIS for instance

This is great news!

For cars.... what MOV/TVS/etc should be used and where? They have way too many parameters for a non-electronics whizz :(
(clamp voltage, AC V, DC V, energy, ... aargh)

I expect something's needed for the 12V (as if: more like 13-15V) supply. What?

Is something also needed for the CAN or is the MCP2551 enough? (I suspect it is.)

Thanks for the link. The download worked but I do not have a keyboard and my Teraterm program will not work. It was working previously with mmbasic 3.2 when I found that mmbasic does not support Canbus commands. Cannot find a device driver for Duinomite Composite Device so that Duinomite Mega USB will communicate with my PC. I do not have a keyboard just a notebook. Thanks.Edited by Lopezjm2001 2012-07-10

This is great news but I switched from DuinoMite firmware and NEVER looked back to the "quality controlled" bug free firmware from Geoff G, the founder of MaxiMite and MMBasic. Until CAN is available from Geoff G, I would stay away from this DM vintage of firmware.
