For several years I've been using a couple of the Altronics Mains Remote Control Switches around the house that provides 8 channels & runs at the usual 433 MHz. Cost for controller and one remote is less than A$20.

Started looking at hacking the code to extend the range & found this link where it has already been done as follows for an Arduino but then the code will be similar for other controllers:
