Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

!?!?

I've recovered a sh!t load of these medical grade sensors from being thrown out.

They consist of a small PTC resistor hermetically shielded in tubing and each is in a sterile package (yes - unused). They are about 50cm long and terminated in a mono 3.5mm (1/8th inch) phono plug. I think they are stable +/- 1% over their temperature range.

They would be great for any environmental measurements, beer making or even rectal temperature measurement if that's your fancy.

On the weekend I will take some photos and post some more tech details, but I'll be giving them away for the cost of postage within Australia.

I'm pretty busy at the moment, so don't get crappy if I'm a bit slow in posting a follow up.

Rob, I've been getting a little behind in my projects, but the offer of your rectal temperature probes has opened a new passage of research for me! Put me on your list! Please! It would be a bummer to miss out!
Thanks, Nic.

If their range is up to 80 Celsius I will take a couple for a hot water/fridge experiment I am prepping for.

Jeez if they were designed to handle that temp. the patient must have eaten some pretty mean chili.

OK, here are some details...

Tip to connector approx. 1m
Tubing material - encapsulated PVC
Quoted specs. 25-45 deg Celsius +/- 0.1 degree.
Resistance: 100 deg = 180 ohm (PVC gets soft but intact)
25 deg = 2k ohm
0 deg = 7k ohm

Photos...
