An unlimited smart phone plan for $19 a month? How about a smart phone plan with an unlimited data, text, and messages for $19 a month? Well, it appears to be correct, but you need a special Android phone (included in price), and have to be a US resident. :-( However I do see it as being part of the future. What is Telstra's line rental these days ? I think it was something like $28/month ? Mind you, that includes (cough, splutter) "service", hua-wei secure technology, fridge magnets, and.. and.. |

As a "registered" oldie, I get Telstra landline Home Basic for $22.95 per month but god help you if you make a call on this plan. It is expensive. I only have it because I need a phone service (I am in the bush) to get ADSL2+. I use Voice over IP for all of my outgoing calls and I use up Telstra for the inbound calls. I get 100 untimed calls to landlines for $5 a month. That includes about 30 international destinations. For mobiles I use Amaysim. It's not unlimited but for me it's almost there. For $20 per month you get to talk for 321 minutes. I can't get that far but my wife achieves it regularly. There is the $40 plan which is almost unlimited. One problem, it is on Optus and gets a bit congested sometimes and some areas the coverage is not great. |

Telstra's 'standard' HomeLine Budget is $22.95/month. I've been on that for a few years to get ADSL. I use MyNetFone VoIP for outgoing phone and the Telsra for incoming. I can sympathise with your 340 minute better half useage Bob, that's why I went to VoIP - my in-laws/family are all interstate. I'm on a $20/month Telstra mobile plan too but charges per call are pretty awful - just as well I don't use it much - Xmas really mucks me around when I visit friends and family  . I'm thinking of going to one of the new Aldi plans instead.
The Aldi plans are not really plans but pre-paids (no contracts) and use the Telstra 3G network. There's an unlimited $35/mth one (good for 30 days) that gives no flagfall, unlimited national, text & MMS, and 5GB data. The other one they actually call 'Pay as you Go' and has credit good for 365 days and can be re-charged in $15 or $30 lots. Charges for it are 12c/min calls, 12c/txt & 5c/MB data. The Amaysim product looks similar to the Aldi one but doesn't use the Telstra network so coverage won't be as good. Roll on Republic Wireless! Greg |

As it turns out I picked up a new sim card last week, it looks good, but I havent used it yet :). The early ISPs went through the same stages...first expensive, then unlimited time/features/ etc, and then they choked and there was a shake out, then the next wave and so on yada yada yada. Hopefully the bandwidth available to telcos now will smooth things a bit. Freedom of choice - two eyesore aerial cables strung up past the door, mobiles, mobile towers, hundreds of TV channels, etc , and all mostly advertising-driven drivel !! |

Can't argue with that on the TV side Stuart, pretty much any TV I watch now is ABC iView (no ads - or redundant graphics/promos) or SBS's backup TV version - and even that is ad driven unfortunately! |
