Greeting from Vancouver, I found some information about the new PIC32 generation. Unfortunately there are no details but if they (PIC32) want to be ATOM competitors the parameters should be at least comparable.

I can guarantee with absolute certainty that multicore PIC32 will not appear with the imminent release of their new generation. They will be very good for a "superMaximite" though... http://rittle.org -------------- |

This leaked slide from Microchip shows a PIC32 (the PIC32MZ) under development with 1 or 2Mb of flash. If the RAM is also increased by the same ratio it would make a fantastic chip for a Maximite Mk III Geoff

That may not be needed after all. I am lucky enough to have some preliminary technical details of the new 32MZ family and it will have up to 512k RAM and 2M flash in the first released series. This is not unknown news anyway. Working at 200MHz and even running MMBasic it will have the approximate speed of a 386DX/33 machine. If it's 2.5 times as fast and with so much RAM it'll do very nicely. Well, so long as they keep all the really good peripherals... They ought to give Geoff a few as he'd be a good tester (if he's willing) since MMBasic hits the chips hard (which is what Microchip should want). Ditto that guy (Serge?) with retrobsd. John |

Microchip is one of those companies that like to give samples. So it should be no problem. The MZ is rumored to have an external memory bus, this will require more pins. No idea which packages will be available but i hope there still will be a package that is solderable by humans.
