Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.
hi tassy jim, checked device manager and the maximite was allocated com 7 not com 3 which I was using.
It is now working as long as you press enter on the laptop. thanks very much Jim. this has stopped a lot of wasted time downloading drivers etc.

Peter,
the way you keep a conversation going (i.e. messages back and forward) is to simply type your reply into the Post Reply box at the bottom of the page of posts you're reading. Then press the PostReply button below the box. You can preview your reply first with the PreviewPost tab alongside it before you post. Don't make your replies by pressing the New Topic tab at the top because that's there to start new topics If you do it gets annoying because the conversation can't be followed on one screen and the Topics "Index" screen will quickly fill up with just your posts.
You can "Quote" other people's replies by pressing the "Quote" button at top right of each post - that post will then fill the "Reply" box below and you can edit it and reply within it. The Help button at the top of each screen has two or three pages of info you should read about how to use the forums.

geez JohnS, "guru" status, I guess you aren't part of the back shed welcome wagon committee. I, and I'm sure you were, once a newbie with 3 posts to his name 565 posts ago. I probably would have not stuck around here if I was welcome with your post compared to everyone else that is trying to help a newcomer ask questions in a new forum. You have 568 posts. Give petercl14 a break, he'll get it soon enough. A little instruction, instead of reaction, goes a long way. Paceman gets it.
P.S. welcome petercl14, I'm a newbie too.
Sorry if I vented, but if it wasn't for this forum...

Well put Jim
Don't be scared away petercl14 - we are here to help each other so we welcome you on board and encourage you to ask away.
At least your problem was resolved which is one of the many good things about the BS Forum.
Hope to hear from you again someday soon . . .

Well I understand the venting but y'know asking HOW to avoid a new thread or even just READING the page would've got an answer. It's really not rocket science.
