I seem to have bricked my pickit3 during a firmware update switching between pic18 and pic32. All the lights are on and it isn't recognised by USB. I opened it up and saw an ICSP header and wonder whether anyone has ever reflashed it? I have a second pickit3 I could use to do that but can't see, to find the firmware for it... |

Hi akashh, A bit more info will be handy to know like what OS are you using and have you tried on another computer. It may be an idea to use MPLAB IPE and see if it will see the pickit3. Now also is that a genuine one or a clone. A guy on another forum had the same problem and Microchip did send a new pickit3 for free after they had tried every option without success. |

Bryan1, it's an original pickit3 and I am on linux. I usually work in mplab IDE, but this occurred when I tried to flash the duinomite bootloader onto a duinomite using mplab IPE. It somehow gave an error during the firmware reflash, since it was previously used on a pic18. All the lights stay on and it is not even recognised by the UsB subsystem. I would be happy to try and reflash the chip in the pickit, it's a pic24. Do you think plugging it into a different pc would help? |

Hi Akashh I have attached the hex and the required connections to reprogram your PicKit3 Hopefully you have access to another programmer Regards Jman 2014-06-11_044905_PK3_012510.zip |

Assuming that you are using MPLAB X try right-clicking on the project, selecting properties, choosing "PICKit3" in the left hand side, and then clicking the "Reset" button on the right. EDIT: On second thought that method requires a working USB connection. Geoff Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |

@jman: Thanks so much!!! It worked like a charm, luckily I had a second PicKit3 lying around with which to reprogram it. @geoff: Yea, that was the problem - the USB died in the process of the update Thanks everyone, that's super useful and good to know that I don't have to worry about bricking the picKit in future. |

Yeah, considering that you always have a second Pickit3 secured. Don't know what PIC24 is inside, it may be programed with a Pickit2 ... Hobbit name: Togo Toadfoot of Frogmorton Elvish name: Mablung Miriel Beyound Arduino Lang |
