Have I missed something....there doesn't seem to be any forum post number view tracking on this forum. Other forums have a button on each thread that you can click and will take you to the point in the thread that you last viewed (requires you to be logged in to track this of course). Am I just blind and cannot see this button? I see the "last" button on the far right but that just seems to take you to the very last message in the thread..... its very painful having to scroll back and forth trying to find where one last read up to in a thread..... |

Hi Modena No, this forum does not have that function. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Thanks for replying. Would you consider adding this functionality? It is pretty straight-forward. |

The forum software would need to write a cookie to your PC with the thread ID and last post ID, for each thread you visit. When you revisit the page, it looks for the cookie, and highlights the post, so you can see where you read up to. In theory, should be fairly straight forward to develop. Unfortunately I'm very time poor at the moment, being that time of the year, and any development work I do goes towards paying the bills. But I will look at it in the future. Yes that is one way, better to store it all in the DB though, and get cross-computer history (I browse on multiple computers, home, work, etc, as do others I am sure). Ben |

I guess that will add to the stress on the database and the server and will cause a lot of problems. Don't forget that this is not corporate forum... Hobbit name: Togo Toadfoot of Frogmorton Elvish name: Mablung Miriel Beyound Arduino Lang |

The database would be OK with it, but I'm thinking more for guest readers as well as members. Guests dont have a database member id. For every member there would be 50 guests that regularly read the forums, and thats why I'll go down the cookie path. Glenn, I would hazard a guess that a lot of these "guests" are actually registered members who are not logged in. This has been happening a lot to me, even though I choose the stay logged in option, I often find myself logged out. |

That will happen if you change the PC you are using. Every time I swap between my desktop and my laptop I have to login again. |
