I have a query regarding erasing pic32 chips using MPLABX IPE and the PICKit3.

When I plug in a pic32 chip (e.g. MX150), and I perform an erase command, the blank check confirms that the chip is erased.

When I disconnect the PICKit3 and remove power from the target socket I would expect the chip to still be blank. But, when I plug the chip back into the target socket and reconnect IPE and perform a blank chip, the system says the chip is not blank.

I can erase and programme/verify ok.

If I simply remove the USB cable, and replace, the system says chip is blank. This only seems to happen when I remove Vdd.

Is there a quirk with the set up or am I missing something? Perhaps something to do with the reset or config words?

Anybody else had similar happenings?

PS. I've had to perform an erase on every new pic32 I've bought as blank check say "no"Edited by MOBI 2014-06-29

I'll be trying it at some point but I recall postings along similar lines so I think it's something like the erase has been asked for but not completed (deferred or something).

Hi Mobi,

I have just tried and I cannot duplicate that fault.

If I disconnect the PK3 either physically or using the disconnect button and remove power from the chip itself and then re-power the chip after a delay of about 10sec then reconnect the PK3 the chip is still blank.

I am using IPE ver 2.00

Regards,

Mick

Mick and JohnS,

I am using IPE beta 1.6, so maybe there is a problem in the earlier version.
I tried lots of settings in the advanced setting section to no avail. The advanced settings wouldn't let me in until I found the ipe.key file and amended the contents.

So, it looks like I download the latest version. Mick, is your version the "free" download or an up market "paid" one?

@Mick,

Thanks for the tip about the version of MPLABX IPE. I downloaded the latest and now all is fine.

As for "free" version, it was the C Compiler not the IPE. Memory fade.
