Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Following on from my other thread, this one now concentrates on the fact that I have no video output from the unit.

3.25v on pins 13, 23 and 28.

LED DOES NOT LIGHT when the unit is powered. Page 68 of SC July 2014 mentions under the TESTING section, that the LED should be on, so I am guessing that the PIC is not running, despite there being power - I suspect the 10uF VCAP, so will pull it out and replace it with a 47uF tant(just like the MicroMites) and see if I have any joy.

LED does light, if I remove power, put jumper on BOOTLOAD and reapply USB power.
If I leave BOOTLOAD jumper off, and just plug in the USB, the LED stays off.

EDIT: Page 65 of SC July mentions that if in doubt, use a 47uF - I will perform this operation now...Edited by Grogster 2014-07-22

OK, I have replaced the 10uF with a 47uF tant, but LED still off.

I reprogrammed the device with the 1.2 hex using IPE, just in case I had a corrupted firmware cos of the 10uF etc, and the program/verify went fine this time, but still no LED or video output.

EDIT: I have just reconnected to the device, and verified it using IPE, and verify completed fine, so the FW is in there, and the chip must be running, one would think, in order for IPE to verify the programming... Edited by Grogster 2014-07-22

Grogs,

You need to burn the chip with the original firmware from the construction kit then use USB and the windws driver to update to ver 1.2

So, you are saying that the 1.2 HEX file is not a full FW?
I would have thought it would have been, it's just that once you have programmed a virgin chip, you can then use the USB tool instead of the PK3...

I may well have that wrong - assumptions being the mother of all - ahem - ups.

I will find and program the original code.Edited by Grogster 2014-07-22

Bugger me - you are right, Mick!

Once I programmed in version 1.0, and cycled power, the LED comes on.
I have the welcome prompt on the screen now.

Progress.

I will now attempt the USB update using the tool....

EDIT: Yay - yes, now even the updater tool is working. All is well. Edited by Grogster 2014-07-22

Don't worry Groggy,

I was pulling out my hair, actually my eyebrows as I have no hair, trying to work out how to fit the ICSP header on the board I am designing for VT100-MuP or MuP-VT100 or MuP-VT what ever I decide to call it... Or flop No. 2 like MuP-Test.
Then I read Geoff's reply to Paul and slapped my head as I wont need ICSP on the PCB.

Yes it IS that tight on the PCB... I have it all squeezed into a 49.5 x 49.5mm PCB and it uses a DIP PIC32MX250 and tranfers all of the IO lines for further connection to the outside world, so plugging MuP-VT into MuP wont lose access to the IO. I even have 2 Resistors mounted on the Under side of the PCB (under the '250, so they sit just above the '150 on MuP.) Hopefully if I can get the tracking laid out there will be full details soon.

Regards,

Mick
