Hi folks. I am looking for a reliable(not cheap Chinese clone) brand-name USB to serial lead. Jaycar NZ sell one here, which would appear to be a genuine Prolific one, but it is a little more costly then I was hoping for. What do other members here recommend? Please note that it needs to be an encapsulated lead type adaptor, not a PCB that I then have to wire up - I want to be able to plug one end into the laptop, the other into the 232 device without having to fuff around. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

I've got a number of A-Ten ones here, if you were on this side of the ditch I'd give you one for free. They seem to work quite well. For crying out loud, all I wanted to do was flash this blasted LED. |

Have a look at the Dontronics web site he has 3v & 5v versions, not particularly cheap but they work. Cliff Cliff |

I've had one of the DB9 connector UC232A's from A-ten (as per aargee's post) for a couple of years now and it's worked fine. Mine's used on a Win XP USB port and RFID board with a 3232 chip interface. Greg |

Thanks Cliff, I have them direct from Easysync, yes not cheap: (guaranteed FTDI manufactured) http://www.dontronics-shop.com/easysync-premium-gold-usb-rs2 32-adapter-cable-10cm-cable.html Or a cheaper Chinese manufactured model, however guaranteed to have FTDI chipset, and guaranteed to work on the latest FTDI drivers: http://www.dontronics-shop.com/usb-rs232-chinese-adapter-cab le.-1.8-meter-cable-usb-rs232-chn.html All prices include Australian postage. I'll even post to NZ free on these. Cheers Don... https://www.dontronics.com |

I agree with the A-Ten units. They were one of the few that I was willing to sell (but that was a long time ago now so things might have changed). Jim VK7JH MMedit |
