All, Geoff's successful MicroMite seems to have caused a global shortage of PIC32MX150D's (TQFP). ![]() Therefore this is a direct plea for HELP from all BSF members. Can anyone obtain/sell/source/(even steal!) some PIC32MX150F128D's for me to allow me to continue supplying the 44-pin MicroMite? Confirmed quantities of 5+ for genuine parts (either 40MHz and/or 50MHz version) will result in an immediate ![]() ![]() My back-up plan is to use the readily available 250's but this is not my preferred route. Standing by my PayPal Money Transfer button . . . . . Regards, WhiteWizzard Note: I am immediately needing 50 pieces (but prepared to buy more if the price is right!) . . . |

MicroChip are talking from Oct to Dec (depending on MHz) before available again ![]() All major suppliers have them on back order. Smaller suppliers quote availability but EVERYONE I request has no stock when I order/enquire. I have just a an email with someone saying they can get some (30) so am chasing those!! Geoff, please can you quickly port MMBasic to a readily available PIC ![]() ![]() Does ANYBODY out there have any 150's?? WW |

I doubt it is uM reason for this shortage... I have 170's (44-pin QFP). If you want some, let me know and we will work out something. http://rittle.org -------------- |

I have two 150D's, but I would expect that kiid is your best bet at the moment. Good luck. Crikey - last time I looked, there were hundreds of them in stock at MicroChip direct, but that was a month or so ago when I last checked. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

A big Thank You to everyone for your posts, emails, and PMs. With your help, it looks like I may have just secured 35 so far. However, I won't know for certain until a few more hours as to whether the suppliers can actually fulfil the quantities order. Please do keep hunting for some as I will need a few more than 35 . . . . |

Can anyone confirm if the 170's give all 33 I/Os? Also, are they pin-for-pin compatible with the 150's? Thanks . . . |

I have the two fully assembled 44's you sold me a month or so back. If you want these back(I have not used them yet) due to shortage of chips, I would be happy to send them back to you along with the two spare 150D's I have here, which would give you four more units to play with. I also have one 150D on a prototype board that I was using to practise your soldering method - I could send that board along too if you wanted, that would give you a total of five 150D's. You'd have to unsolder the one on the prototype board, but you can get that low-melting-point solder stuff which is fantastic for removing SMD. The chip on the prototype board is virgin, cos I never got it hooked up to program it, from what I remember, as your and Zonker's boards came along, and I thought "Why bother re-inventing the wheel?" EDIT: I just found another 150D on a 2nd prototype board, complete with headers. Can send this along too if you like - that would be a total of 6 units you could then glean from all this. @Grogster, Thanks for the offer but why not keep hold of them for your elevator project! I potentially have 35 coming my way from various suppliers. However, I may well be back in touch in about 12 hours begging you for these though ![]() WW |

Yeah, they WERE destined for the elevator project, but that has not moved much of late, so if you were desperate for modules and chips.... Keep us posted, and the offer still stands, so just let us know how you get on sourcing chips. ![]() Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

I can confirm that 170's work perfectly fine with the mite, of course with half of their memory capacity http://rittle.org -------------- |

Geoff, look what you've done, you single handedly created a WORLDWIDE shortage of silicone. You are the man! I don't think even Bill Gates ever did something like this with the first PC. Damn, you're good... |

Grogster, thanks, my wife also said something similar, there is no lack of silicone here, i did mean silicon. Both have cost me a lot of money, but hey, I enjoy them both, more one than the other???? |

I am in Ireland at this time so I cannot do anything immediately but I do plan to produce a PIC32MX170 version at some time. You could you could use the 170 and then people could update later to get the extra memory. Sent from my phone Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |

WW, Element14 are quoting 37 in stock for 6-7day delivery from US E14 Regards, Mick PS. I hope to create a shortage of PCF8574's when my `IO Panel' hits the street in a week or so.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Mick's uMite Stuff can be found >>> HERE (Kindly hosted by Dontronics) <<< |

@bigmik several companies are showing stock but when you order them they quickly reply saying none available for despatch! Element 14 showed stock of 6 (from US stock which then attracts an additional one-time US delivery fee). This would make the unit cost over £7 - ouch! I have only been able to source 14 + 6 with another potential 12 from a guy in Germany. @Geoff How compatible is the 170 with the 150? Is it a drop-in replacement (particularly the TQFO)? Would the 150 hex file work on the 170? What features would I loose using a 170? What features would I gain? (I know I also emailed these questions to you (when the BSF wasn't responding) but I have repeated them here for other people to see your comments! Hope you don't mind ![]() |

I cannot guarantee that the 170's will work as I have not tested them. But, they should work as the data sheet is the same with the only difference being the memory size. Unfortunately I cannot test the 170 for you as I am still in Ireland. And it will be weeks after I get back before I can get my hands on some more samples. Geoff Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |
