Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Just found my new favorite monitor for MMedit. It has no power cord and just plugs into usb port. With MMedit, I can display 80 lines of code at one time. I use the tall one for code and the laptop for chat. Model is AOC E1649FWU. Just thought I'd share... (must be bored).

Nice find! See Amazon sell that model for around $90.

So, is this a USB video display then?
Curious...

@ Glenn - could you please post the link? I can see it is an AOC brand.

Thanks a bunch, Jim - I like it.

Due to it's size, it probably is not practical to get one into NZ(for postage cost reasons), but I will look into this a bit more, as it would be perfect for my own MMedit code writing, just as you do. I may even be able to get one locally, as AOC are a brand sold over here.

Nice. I did not think that USB would be fast enough for any video display, hence VGA or DVI or HDMI etc......

EDIT: I can get the 1659 model here for 144 bucks in our money.
Seems to be USB3 - I guess that it why it works, cos of the USB3 speed.Edited by Grogster 2014-08-13

Grogster, The older one I have is usb 2 and I can watch movies on it. It really is bizarre that it works as good as it does. I can only image you can play fast graphic games on the usb 3 version.

p.s. did you hear Robin Williams died today?Edited by viscomjim 2014-08-13

I would say there would be a lot of compression going on to send video down a USB lead. Streaming video and high end games would struggle, but for day to day stuff I think it would work very well.

Re Robin Williams

Apologies, I thought it was Robbie Williams (the Take That singer) who you were refereeing to (Angels etc) rather than Robin (Mork & Mindy etc) Williams.

RobinW was a great comedian, always close to the edge. "Good Morning Vietnam" was one of his greatest performances IMHO. As a standup comedian he was simply one of the best.

Luckily we have a great body of work on film to remember Robin by.

Yeah, I was a bit bowled over by this news. I found out at a job I was at, and the client told me they had read that on the net.

Awakenings with Robert DeNiro would be my favourite movie of his, followed by Patch Adams, then Good-morning Vietnam.

A great man brought low.
Hard to believe it, as he was always so lively on any talk-show, but then again - perhaps a case of him being larger then life. Very sad. I will watch one of his movies tonight.
