Hi there I've read in Silicon Chip and on here that pin 1 can be connected to Vcc directly, or via a 10k resistor. Does it matter? Is there any particular reasons why I should use a resistor?? I'm prototyping a small project, will be handy to leave pins 1 and 28 shorted with the stripboard trace under the chip if I don't need to use a resistor.... :) Thanks Lee |

Microchip recommend that you use a resistor. It could be because you can then program the chip in circuit or it might be to limit the effect spikes on the power rail. I often connect pin 1 direct to 3.3V with no problems at all. Geoff Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |

If you use a resistor, you can short it to ground for a reset. |
