Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi all,

what is the way in the future? Is the PIC32MX150 supported in the future or is it better to use the PIC32MX170 for a further project? (...I don't need the additional features and the additional RAM for my next Project...)

Thanks

Frank

As I understand things, you can still use either one, although, Geoff will be concentrating his firmware updates for the 170 series chips.

So, if you have a stock of 150's, you can still use these, but I would expect that the new default chip is the 170 series.

Frank,

Geoff has 'hinted' that the firmware will stop at v4.5x for the 150.
He is working very hard on new features that will only be for the 170.

So given a choice - always opt for the 170 for new 'developments'.

IF your project currently runs 100% ok on v4.5D then you can definitely use any 'remaining' 150's that you may have lying around.

Does this info help??

WW

Hi WW,

thank you for this info!

No, my project doesn't work really ok with v4.5D - I need the I2C-Slave function and this does not work properly.
I think I must switch to the 170
...they are not available over Farnell - only the 150 is available without any difficulty...

I do have 28-pin DIPs (50MHz), and the 44-pin TQFPs (both 40MHz and 50MHz).

However, if you are after 28-pin SMD 170s then I don't have any currently.

The most consistent supplier in terms of availability seems to be DigiKey (and trust me, I keep my eye on global supply on a daily basis).

So MX170 is the way forward until Geoff brings out the MX190 version
