I see that MicroMite v4.5 has Servo control built. But MaxiMite v4.5 doesn't, per the manual. I wanted to control a five servo robot arm with Maximite. Is that not possible the way it's built or am I just missing something in the Maximite manual? www.elproducts.com |

You're not missing anything. The MaxiMite series of MMBASIC do not support many of the new advanced commands of the Micromite - yet. Geoff has hinted that porting those commands over to the Maximite is on his to-do pile, but not sure when that will actually happen. It will be great when the Maximite gets access to the advanced commands of the Micromite. EDIT: If you needed the servo control NOW, you could always program a Micromite chip, and control it from the Maximite using I2C, SPI or a COM port. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

The PIC32 used in the Maximite has only two PWM outputs free and they are used for the audio and PWM output (which can be used to drive two servos). This is a hardware limitation. Geoff Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |

Looks like driving a Micromite with the Maximite is the best option then. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

That explains it. I'll look at using a Micromite then. Maybe I'll make a micromite shield that plugs into the Maximite Arduino headers and use the com port idea for communication since all Arduino style modules use the same pins for serial communication. Essentially a programmable/customizable Arduino shield. And all I need to do is send serial commands to control it. That idea should work with any Arduino style module, Arduino, CHIPINO, Maximite, etc. Thanks. Could be a fun project. www.elproducts.com |
