Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Geoff,

Quote  move a lot of the features from the Maximite version into the other versions

I would be more interested to get some MICROMITE features moved to Maximites.
(I think that's what you wanted to say?)

Regards
Michael

edit:
Needless to say, I'm very interested to get a updated Maximite MKII. Thanks for considering to do that!Edited by twofingers 2015-01-03

Ugh, yes. I meant Micromite features to the Maximite family.

CircuitGizmos said   I hear what you are saying, Grogster, but for some people this may be their very first step into microcontroller use. Buying pre-programmed Micromites means that several steps where something could go wrong have been done for them.

Also their investment in making a circuit that blinks LEDs is under $10 or so.

...very valid point, and well made. It's OK for me, as I have a PK3 and plenty of tinkering experience, but I openly admit that I have had a few trip-ups programming them too, so when you look at it like that...

I retract my previous statement.

Lads,

Maybe an `idiot's guide to programming Pics' is needed here..

I feel I am well qualified for that.. (an idiots guide that is).

Talking about an Idiot's Guide, forgive me but what is special about the MkII variant?
I have tried to find a single PDF of features, or a web page with the differences?

I have only just come to MM, so I don't have the total background of it all.

Another thing I don't fully understand is the difference between the Colour and Monochrome MM. [Please no smart-arse answers to this, I DO realise what Monochrome is etc ]

The best place to start is here:
http://geoffg.net/maximite.html

The Monochrome Maximite was the first. Followed by the Colour and then the micromite.
The micromite Mk2 has just arrived.

Details of all these and more are on Geoff's website.

Hi Jim,

Yep I've read that. I meant, do they use different processors, RAM, etc?

I am actually hinting at the fact that other new comers will find this info useful, as a comparison etc.
Geoff's website appears to have a single page per product, without a good overview between them all (the variants).
The only one I've seen, is the Mono vs Colour page.

For myself, I am happy with the monochrome miniMaximite that I have now. Will end up using a micromite later. No problems with that.
