Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Someone asked in another post about comparisons between the Micro- and Maximites, so I've started building a table in a Google Spreadsheet, here:
Mite comparison

Let me know if you want to edit it and I'll add you.

Best,
David

Hi David,

That was me. Thanks for that.
Certainly makes it a bit easier to find out functionality, RAM size etc.

Much appreciated.

However, now you need a way to ensure that new comers can find it in amongst all the posts in the forum.

Once I get to a reasonably complete state, I'm going to ask Geoff to put a link somewhere prominent :)

David,

A prominent logical place is probably the sticky post Micromite MMBasic Library(s) which is kept at the top of the Topics list - have a look at that. As the sticky says, Peter Carnegie (G8JCF on this forum) maintains the Micromite libraries and Glenn (Gizmo) who runs the TBS forum keeps that post up to date when Peter sends him an update. If you PM Peter either with a link to the file or send the file to him he can put another link line in the sticky post to access the file.

Noticed a small error in the comparison chart... The Original Maximite has one PWM and the Color Maximite has two. The chart has them reversed.

Under CPU speed for the all the Micromites, you might indicate "Software configurable (5MHz-48MHz)". Probably should also indicate the Maximites have SD program and data storage capability where the Micromites don't.

Thank you, Curtis. I caught that too.

I've updated the spreadsheet with as much info as I could find so far. I'll add internal and SD storage info soon.

Here are some "Program Size" numbers for the Mono/Color Maximites. If you disable the VGA on the Maximites and just use the terminal interface, you have more free RAM your applications.

Monochrome - Video ON
86kB Free

Monochrome - Video OFF
112kB Free

Color - Video ON
31kB Free

Color - Video OFF
107kB Free

Curtis, maybe I'm being dense: how do you disable VGA? I have a Circuit Gizmos ColorMax2. I tried the following as a program:

memory
option video off
memory

Both memory commands report 34k free.

I'm using the terminal interface over USB.

OPTION VIDEO only stops sending data to the display.
You need

CONFIG VIDEO OFF | ON

Try:

CONFIG VIDEO OFF

A reboot is required... Also, the "CONFIG VIDEO OFF" is broken in at least one of version of MMBasic version (4.4 I think), but version 4.5 does work.

Hi all,

I dug into an older Micromite doc and added info for the MkI. I also simplified some of the display overall. Here's the public view .
