Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi folks.

I am looking at the Gameduino as a graphics controller for my next project, but I have never used this thing.

You can buy clones from eBay for $34 including shipping($25 in US money), so tempted to get one to play with.

I hear good reports around the net of it, and how it is reasonably easy to drive via SPI, and the demo videos sure look good.

Has anyone here actually used one of these things with an Arduino or other MCU, and how difficult or easy was it to get working?

I am interested in any members reviews of this unit, good or bad.

I really only have need for colour text, and large fonts. I am not interested in sprites or fancy animations, so that should make my life even easier, placing the Gameduino in the running as the perfect solution - yes?

...false logic, perhaps.....

@G
Not used a GameDuino, but I did get hold of one of these which I did play with the 'demo' and it looked good. Never took it any further so was put back in its packaging and been there ever since.

If you think it may help then PM me an offer (no matter how low!) and I will drop it in the post. At least it may finally go to a good home!

I have one in my drawer collecting dust. I have to make some time for it......
It should do the things you want.The provided arduino sources look not difficult.
Currently i am sourcing lots of displays for a new project, and those will be driven by either parallell mode or through RGB. Especially with larger displays the price difference gets a lot bigger when there is an included controller. Driving the 'glass'directly can be a big price saver when using more then a dozen or so.
