Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Have folks on this forum any recommendations for circuit diagram software that does *not* have the dreaded European rectangular resistors?Edited by Herry 2015-03-22

Circuit Wizard uses the zig-zag resistor pattern, but it is very basic.
I used it for a while but now use diptrace.
I agree I prefer the zig-zag, I grew up on Radio and Hobbies and Silicon Chip.
Paul.
Edit. It wasn't Circuit Wizard in fact it is DipTrace, I must be going mad, its just that I don't do schematics for my projects now because they never convert to PCB the way I want.
I just use the PCB and place the components where I want and connect it up.
Diptrace has a freeware version just search the net.

I use Sprint Plan for all my schematic work.

They support both the square resistors(which I personally prefer!), AND also the zig-zag type:

I use diptrace and i find it a very user friendly program to make schematics and pcb's.
I not worry to much about how the standard parts look like as it is only a minute or two to change it or even make your own part.

Hi Herry,

Of course AUTOTRAX DEX does just that

The little + signs next to the resistors signify pin 1 (I think) and can be removed if you do not wish them there..

AutoTrax DEX is totally free for non-commercial use (adds a non-commercial text to your GERBERs, I believe) and is fairly/very easy to use.

Regards,

Mick

Express PCB. is free and includes express schematic.

i use a program called DIY Layout Creator (DIYLC), a java application that is downloadable here:
https://code.google.com/p/diy-layout-creator/

it supports nice zig-zag resistors, though the transistors lack circles around the outside - but it is relatively easy to add the circles later on yourself. note that it is not a schematic layout program in the strictest sense, more of a drawing program that has been designed to aid drawing schematics. on the plus size, it is compact, simple, and it does also support creating veroboard layouts, which can be pretty handy.

completed work can be converted to PNG images or PDF documents. i use the PDF option, then convert into a GIF file for publishing using photoshop elements 2. with schematics i generally boost the gamma massively to achieve good readability when the resolution is reduced for display in a browser:

cheers,
rob :-)

Many thanks chaps for all these suggestions. I will using my choice for Micromite Mk 2 projects on Veroboard. I've got Pebble for layout but it is easy drawing of schematics that really interests me. If they can be linked, so much the batter.
