Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I have launched a small Kickstarter project with my idea and thought to share it with the people here and hopefully they would find it interesting...

Hi Kon,

This is a very nice board, I wish I had one now, I could use it..

I am considering kicking in for a bare board but I have a few questions,

First what micro is used on the project?

What is the max current of each output, considering 1.5A can be driven from a USB3 port. Also a USB (iPad) plug pack can deliver 2A. I doubt these sorts of currents can be supplied on 3v3 and adj.

Are you in AUS or UK?

Regards,

Mick

Mick just beat me to it. Same questions basically. Especially micro type.
UK pound and mention of a UK dinner also has me confused Kon. Thought you were Australian based.

However nice board. Very useful.

Cheers Don...

"Nice Display" - yes, they are, those things. Interesting idea. Good luck.

Looks great.

Did I read it correctly that the voltage can be adjusted via USB?

If successful, the funding from this campaign will go towards a few major tasks:

4. Creation of PC software for the USB-controlled variant of the board.

Thanks to all who responded.

I don't have a USB3 device and can't test. The absolute maximum output for the outputs individually is 500mA from the 3.3V and 1.25A from Vo, assuming that the port can supply enough current for that. The 5V output is just a direct connection out from the USB power supply.

Not sure does it matter at all, but I am in the UK at the moment (did not bother to change my profile in the past year or so).

The display - actually I first saw mentioned it in a topic here a few months ago and right at that time I needed a small power supply for a board, but I didn't have any because I had sold all my old stuff while relocating. That gave me the initial idea to make one myself, the board turned out nice and I thought other people might like it too, especially where the PS specs are not very critical - casual designers, clubs, etc. In fact the specs are not too bad either - with 250mA load the ripple on Vo is no higher than 10mV, and that is a lot of current for a small microcontroller-based board.

A few different microcontrollers can be installed on board, all of them are PIC - 16f570, 16f722/723, 16f1782/1783, 16f1788, 18f24k50/25k50. Maybe there are other too, but I have checked about these so far. Some of the models have USB, other don't, but have other things, such as 12-bit ADC. The boards in the pictures use 16f1783. I went for it because I needed the 12-bit ADC for the initial testing and calibration.

To this day people occasionally keep asking me how to make or buy one of those. I have lost interest in this project in favour of others at the moment, and decided to release it free to everyone the way it is at the moment. The hardware is tightly routed on a two-layer PCB in order to keep the cost low. That was fun. The files are for Altium Designer.
The board is relatively easy for manual assembly with the components large enough to be handled. If you assemble the board properly, it should start working immediately. The full working parameters are still yet to be determined.

The firmware however is unfished (again, because I turned my attention elsewhere). It is close to completion and if someone else is interested in picking up from here on, please be welcome. The only condition - keep the project open source.

You can download the pack from my server

Comments or questions - please let me know.
Thanks!
