Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Saw this 3D printer that can print prototype circuit boards, or small run, that has a solder paste option with 550W reflow..

Could be useful..

Keep plugging away, it is fun learning
But can be expensive (if you keep blowing things up).

WOW!

That thing is something I am going to keep a close eye on. Even if it is quite expensive, it would still be worth it due to the number of boards I churn out these days....

EDIT: $2,199 pre-order. I've seen much worse prices for CNC machines etc.Edited by Grogster 2015-05-28

Yes, it looks neat.

Only two issues... it is no good with thru hole components AND its price is $2,200. Gulp

Surely we here at the forums can put a MicroMite to work as a 3D PCB printer controller for twenty bucks?

I saw one a few months back that had a bunch of interchangeable tool blocks in the top. would 3d print, mill, solder paste, and a few others I can't remember.

looked great but the build area was too small.

0.8mm pin to pin pitch. That rules out almost all smd chips.

The pictures on the website on the left is from the machine drawing traces and pads.
The two on the right is a pcb from a manufacturer with soldermask and silkscreen, which both the machine is not doing.
It can also not use reflow with the printed traces as the inks will not stand up to the heat.
It sets the wrong expectations. Marketing crap. Always hiding the so important details.

The isolation patches to allow dual layers is nifty.
If only the minimum pin to pin pitch was 0.5mm and reflow was possible.
Maybe the next version.

Hi All,

I see it as a step in `the right' direction.

BUT!!!

It is way too dear at $2200 (I assume US) that would make it well over $3200AUS by the time the Gov adds GST and you wont see it for about a year.

It is pretty limited in this current form..

I will wait until a better and cheaper model appears..

Regards,

Mick
