Forum Index : Microcontroller and PC projects : Destroying a PCB silkscreen.....

Hi folks. Does anyone know of a chemical that can remove the white silkscreen on a PCB, but leave the rest of the PCB intact? Specifically, I wanted to rub out the white silkscreen on one of my boards, so that I could then scan the board so that I just have the layout as an image. I want to use this image as the background for the website I am launching. Does anyone have any pointers or suggestions? I don't care if the experiment actually destroys the PCB - all part of the experimentation..... Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

Hi Grogster, if you want, send me the file with the silkscreen and I can photoshop all the silkscreen out of it... Just a thought. |

Owwwww - nice idea. Would that not affect the rest of the image? I don't have photoshop, but do know it is pretty crafty with things like that.... I will scan the PCB tomorrow(bedtime here) and PM you about this. Still interested in any other methods someone might come up with. The reasons for wanting to use my own board are twofold: 1) It is my design, so there is no image copyright to worry about using someone else's image 2) It helps to promote what I can do, which will be one of the things on the new website. It won't affect the rest of the image. I use photoshop daily at work so not a problem. Send it on over and I'll turn it around for you. |

If you designed it yourself you might be able to use the design files as a basis for some graphic art. Microblocks. Build with logic. |

Impressive Jim! How do you 'restore' the background with PhotoShop - was that a manual process to 'fill in' the tracks? WW For everything Micromite visit micromite.org Direct Email: whitewizzard@micromite.o |

Jim has sent me the full-size image, and this is WAY beyond what I though was possible. I knew that photoshop was clever, but I thought that there would still be noticable artifacts of the removal, but the HD picture I have here now thanks to Jim, is impossible to detect that the silkscreen was even removed. Amazing. Thanks Jim - you ARE a champ! Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

No problem Grogster, I enjoy using Adobe's creative cloud products and use Photoshop and Illustrator most of my day at work. Photoshop can make quick work of things like this. I mostly used the laquer thinner tool.... JK |
