On the 64 pin chip does the RTC connect to I2C one IE. pins 43 and 44.
I am getting an error of RTC not responding.

43 & 44 is what I use, and it works.

You have pull-ups, yes?
Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops!

Thanks Grogs but another silly mistake, I was using a module with a DS1307 on board.
