Does anyone know of a 'cheap' but reliable DAB module that could be linked to a MM? There seems to be this one available but it is not exactly 'cheap'!! I do not need FM, but if included then it is not an issue. Wanting to build a DAB alarm clock. Have everything else working nice (and playing MP3's), but the 'boss' prefers to wake up to radio. For once I do not mind if this is an ultra 'cheap' module that originates from our 'Far East' friends. It is a one-off (for now) ![]() Thanks, WW |

@atmega8 Thanks for that link. The Si4614 looks promising BUT where to buy from? Google returns zero results for a module. And only two pages of links to the IC, but no 'practical' info regarding purchase. Do you have anything regarding purchasing?? If so please provide a link as this does look like an ideal product. EDIT: No major supplier recognises this part number ![]() WW |

I found several vendors listing the Si4614-A10 chip, but no one has any in stock. --Curtis I am not a Mad Scientist... It makes me happy inventing new ways to take over the world!! |

Hi Paul, Will contact SiLabs UK Sales Office tomorrow to see what they can do. Arrow distributor are quoting £17+20%vat per unit - ouch. And this is just for a chip - have to make it into a 'module'. Are there no DAB modules at all out there?? ![]() WW |

Yes, that module does keep coming up - but no others ![]() Will be calling SiLabs shortly to see what they have to offer. . . . Perhaps DAB(+) is a dying technology now that everything is streamed. Next thing to look at doing (if no DAB module available) is to possibly stream to an internet radio station. Does anyone know where to begin on this? The ideal is a low cost module like the ESP8266, have it pre-configured to an internet radio streaming website, and simply pass the 'audio' signal into an amp. Perhaps this is better than the DAB approach bearing in mind I will have a strong WiFi signal. Any thoughts? |

I don't think DAB in Australia really took off. It is short range and only available in capital cities. People who are audiophiles have a good stereo amp to listen to their music and really FM radio is not all that bad. The other thing I find a bit perplexing is people in their 60's and 70's paying big money to listen to really good stereo reproduction with their $2 ears. Looks like I have finally found a use for the RaspberryPi - they are used a lot to build Internet streaming Radios. This seems like a 'cheap' option compared to the DAB module. Would be nice to have a MM based GUI controlling the RPi. Anyone out there actually created a RPi internet radio to provide some advice? Google has thousands of examples so will play with this over the coming days I think . . . WW |

This is one of the many ironies of life... when you finally get the money to buy such a setup you are too old to really enjoy it. The same applies to sports cars. Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |

If it helps you feel better, then I don't mind if you donate your HiFi and any Sport Car(s) to my younger ( ![]() ![]() |
