Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I finally got myself an explorer 64 board and assembled it today, but did not manage to get everything working and thought I would save myself some time by getting a someone who already made my mistakes to chip in!
The first issue is that the USB identifies under Linux but the console is still on com4, I assume it's just a setting in mmbasic to redirect the console to USB?
The second issue is that my Eastrising 7" SSD1963 display does not seem to work. I connected everything as per Goeff's instructions, but there was no separate option for a 5v backlight, so I selected 3.3v for the whole display. After powering it up it looks dead. I selected the "use internal backlight" option so I assume the backlight is controlled via software through the MM+. I did not connect the backlight enable pin on the screen. Could this be the issue?

Thanks for any help or suggestions on how to resolve it.

Hi akashh,
See page 14 of the Micromite Plus Manual.

I obviously got my wires crossed. Now the backlight command works and I can see it change brightness. However on both the lcd panel options for 7" the gui test lcdpanel command just shows a blank screen or sometimes a weird pattern on part of the screen,
My assumption is that the wires are properly connected or else the backlight command would not work, right?
Any clues as to what else could be the issue? If anyone has used it with the EastRising 7" please let me know.

Thanks,
Akash

Not completely correct. A subset of them must certainly be connected but possibly not all, double check every wire including making sure RD is tied high and CS is tied low.
Make sure your power supply is meaty enough, the 7" displays things take a lot of power.

If you provide a link to the actual display we can have a look but it is almost certainly compatible

It is also worth trying all of the 800x480 options:

SSD1963_5
SSD1963_5A
SSD1963_7
SSD1963_7A

The current draw is approximately 360mA at 5v including the pic at full brightness. The regulator is an 33375 rated at 0.3a. By reducing the brightness I got it to below 300mA. So I think that part is ok, but I will definitely check the connections and the different drivers, thanks for the tips.

Just to be certain, can you confirm that the driver chip on the display is marked SSD1963...

So now when I go back to switch it on, the main chip does not seem to come up. Current draw is 0.0a. Once in a while it goes up to the normal 100-130mA. I cannot seem to find the reason, changed the vcap between a 10uF and a 47uF tantalum, changed the crystal, checked the soldering which appears fine, checked the supply voltage, nothing seems to make any difference. Any ideas where else to look?
