Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I have been experimenting and posted on this combination before but the recent improvements in performance and capabilities of ESPBasic is really worth a further mention.

The best way to use the ESP8266 (with ESPBasic), is IMHO, as a front end to the uMite. I have several mites used as sensor/controllers all communicating currently via serial RF modules (XRF) but the recent changes to ESPBasic have made it a game changer. One of the many changes are the addition of UDP network commands which work so well I am replacing the Serial RF modules in my sensor network with ESP8266 communicating via my Wifi network back to my server/base station/display (run by uMite Plus), further advantages are NTP time sync for local clocks, from the internet,

First cab off the rank was the weather station, software changes to comms routines have been made to use the ESP8266 in the weather station and the server and are working well. ESP8266/Basic in the server has also allowed the addition of HTTP/GET post routine in the uMite software to upload weather data to the Personal Weather Station network of Weather Underground, see here.
Greenhouse/hydroponics, water tank/irrigation and low voltage Solar monitor will all now be moved to the Wifi network.

If anyone is interested in more info please post/pm in the mean time but I do plan to start updating info on the project on my web site.
