Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi All,

Mentioned in another post that my programmer finally turned up after 34 days on the Slow Boat form China.

What I didn't mention, was that due to frustration, I ordered another one.....
The same day the first order finally arrived.

Second one (Australian supplier) turned up the next day.

So I probably don't need two. (But then, I do misplace things...).

The first order wasn't listed as Genuine Microchip, but they attempt to make it look like one, but don't think it really is.

The second was a Genuine item.

If anyone's interested in taking one off my hands send me a message.

I'd probably opt for keeping the expensive one ($85.00).

Cheers

Phil.

Real one is on the left, with the more transparent case.

Keep them both. The PICKit# can get temperamental at times, stuck between Firmware versions of Device Family Firmware. There is nothing more frustrating than having to start debugging the tool when all you wanted to do is flash a chip. Having a second PICKit will often allow you to swap tools and continue or assist in the faultfinding.

Running the command line Tool and Logic Analyser on one with the Second as a programmer is also very useful for debugging.

Cheers
Chris

Yeah no great financial loss, $18+$5 for the first, but jumped a fair bit more for the Genuine one, knowing I could have it with overnight delivery.

And alleviate the frustration that arises when you can't find where you last left something.

Like that thermistor I took a photo of one night, posted the pic & couldn't find the bloody thing next day.

If anyone has seen a thermistor matching resembling the one I posted a pic of in another thread, it may be mine, please call 5555-1234. Do not approach the thermistor, it has a history of violence, and connections to a case where a MOSFET had it's head blown off.

Phil,

Can a thermistor swim the ocean ??
I may have spotted it in Illinois.
I'll send the dogs in to kill it.

I think you are mistaken Lou,

I saw here in Melbourne in the McDonalds car park, you know... the one where Elvis works the drive through window.

Our cat's may have already done that.

Zip tie soccer is one of their favourite sports.

A thermistor with it's lead bundles up with a zip tie,
Cat World Cup Soccer Heaven...
