Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi All,

Check out Geoff's latest efforts in next month's Silcion Chip Magazine.
It looks great Geoff. Well done.
Thanks for pointing out the 'diode'. I got 10 of those modules, off eBay a while ago, and on inspection 'googled the circuit'. I laughed when I saw a CR2032 coin cell. First thing I did was remove the diode.
As the DS3231 is completely devoid of a Maxim, or Dallas, marking I would be highly dubious as to whether this module meets the proper specs but at the price I don't expect it to. I also wonder if the 32kB eeprom is actually 32kB. No markings either. Should try it.
Thankyou, once again, for your continued efforts. I only hope that you are being properly remunerated for them. Perhaps you could have a beer fund, like TassyJim.
Donated to that one and all. We can't live on warm, fuzzy, feelings forever .

@mikeb

At least give us 'foreigners' the project 'name'/'title' so we can know whether to buy that edition of SC

Don't think any of us would disagree with Geoff having a 'Donate' button added to his site - come on Geoff, don't be shy to add this 'feature' to your website

@WhiteWizard,

Don't want to breach copyright laws so can't post photo's or describe too much but........ .
Geoff has gone to so much effort in making this a 'feature rich' design that I think it is in a world of its own.
You will love it as it includes 'clock features' for all parts of the world.
I'm with WhiteWizard re the 'donate button'.
You're not a foreigner. I have a British passport too. Thanks for your efforts too,
and matherp, and kiid, and TassyJim, and........... (sorry for leaving people off).Edited by mikeb 2016-06-24

Not wanting photos (as you say - due to copyrights) BUT at least give the words in the project 'heading'. Jumble the words up if you like - we can work out the rest then I guess!

So far all I know is it has a clock and some memory (and assuming a MM too (but how many pins?)).

The suspense is killing me now . . . .

It must be the 'TouchScreen Super Clock' (listed on SC website for the July edition)

@WhiteWizard
You are as good as your technical support leads us to believe.
As the article states "Guess you're thinking.....not another clock" but this is a clock with a lot of forethought behind it. The software is based on routines familiar to all of us but it has been brought together so that everyone can have a highly functional, schmick piece of kit. (not sure about the enclosure though).

Here is a preview from the Silicon Chip website itself, so no breach of any copyright, but you can see what it is all about.

@Grogster
Shame the preview doesn't show the effort, in software gone into it, over the next seven pages.
(........and Grogster. I think it's you I buy the MM+'s off isn't it ?)Edited by mikeb 2016-06-24

I guess you buy the issue to see the effort!

Didn't realise it was on the stand till I wandered in at 5:30 this afternoon.

By 6:00 Geoff's article had hit the scanner, ready for reference in the Laptop.

Just another Clock???

No, I don't see it that way.
I see it more as code to learn from; new interface & display ideas that can be put to use in other projects.

Thanks Geoff.

So good to have well thought out code to learn from.

Ver5.2 beta1 has been available since May, from a post on the forum but not on Geaff G site.

Completely aware of the Beta & running it Beta 2 on a couple of MM's here.

Didn't quite expect to see that in print, but then don't really know the Lead time for the article , Vs the projected time for 5.2's final release.

No biggie, just an observation.

Cheers.

Pinky!!! How did this Geoff Graham get the specs to my new "Super Clock" project?

A mind reading fax machine? Narf!

Seriously, it's totally Geoff's work, but it is amazing how much it resembles one of my own project ideas with the GPS module, RTC module, DST adjustment and multiple time displays. The big difference is Geoff actually made it while I'm still sitting here thinking about it.

Geoff's article and several of the others listed has inspired me to order a printed copy of the magazine. Wonder how long it will take to arrive?

Thanks for the kind words guys. Silicon Chip often catch me out when they get the magazine out earlier than I expected (as in this case). I am working on my web page for the Super Clock and should have it up soon.

I have also released the final of Micromite V5.2 firmware. You can download it from: http://geoffg.net/micromite.html

@Geoff

While you're working on the web page don't forget the DONATE button.
You have been more than generous in your efforts and I for one would like to learn from your expertise for a long time to come.
Do I have to start a thread to get votes on this ?
It would simply be a small TOKEN (not for the interpreter ) of appreciation from time to time.

For anyone who does not have access to Silicon Chip I have posted a description of the Super Clock on my website: http://geoffg.net/SuperClock.html

Note that my web pages are shorter than the magazine articles and aimed at the more experienced constructor, so the full articles are still worth the read if you can get them.

I looked at adding a Donate button but I have run out of time and will try again later. I am about to leave on a trip to north America (San Francisco, Seattle, Montana, Calgary and Vancouver) and will be back in late August so don't worry if I do not immediately respond to queries. I will have a laptop and Internet connection with me but I could be out of range for long stretches of time.
