Hi all, I just recently purchased some DAB Modules (lot of 5). Communication via UART. Wanted to make a small dab radio powered by USB, or a small battery. With a touch screen for the buttons. Got the Arduino footprint for Dex, from the sparkfun library, to make a shield for the CGMicroboard2. I was looking for a good stereo Class D audio amp IC to use to power the speakers. Was looking at around 3 - 5 watts. Any suggestions? (and example circuit) I was looking at a maxim 98306, but that is a TDFN package, and I don't think I could solder that. I found plenty on EBAY they are cheap enough so just try them and see how they go. Paul. "It is better to be ignorant and ask a stupid question than to be plain Stupid and not ask at all" |

How about something like this: Stereo amp with tone-control for US$12.55 It's class-D, tiny, has bass, treble and volume controls, and only needs a single-rail supply voltage. Don't pay too much attention to the 50W output power figure, as that is at the point before it self-destructs, but it can do about 15W per channel or so at 12v. EDIT: Or if you wanted something even more basic, then there is this: 10W stereo amp with volume control for A$ four bucks... Again, I would not put too much faith in the 10W power figure, but you should be able to get 3-5W out of it without problems. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

I was looking for DAB modules some time ago but could not find anything cheap enough. Would you mind providing a link to what you purchased In the end I used a RPi to stream Internet radio, paired it with a DAC to give unbelievable sound quality, and controlled it with a MM BackPack with 2.8" touch. Yet another unfinished project, but all the 'building blocks' work - just a case of code to complete. Regarding Amps, there are many modules available (as others have said here). All cheap enough. I purchased some ADAFruit modules (I2C) and they worked well - but you pay more than you would on an auction site. One thing I use with my Internet Radio's is active computer speakers. I personally like the sound of the Creative Inspire T10's. Paired with a DAC - the soundstage is amazing (and total setup less than £50. Hope your DAB project goes well - do keep us updated . . . . Hi all, @WW I purchased this module from the sixthlogic store. I had to buy 5 for AUD 100. I decided to go with a Texas Instruments TPA6012A4PWPR . It is a class A/B but it comes with a headphone/speaker cutoff circuit, and runs from 5V. Will keep everyone posted. Hi MMWombat, Was wondering if you had any code you can share for DAB radio? Thanks. |

@ astro1 Unfortunately, I have put this project on the back burner, as my 19 year old daughter has a rare soft tissue cancer, and I am doing some projects around the house to make her life a little more bearable. I will get back to it eventually, but not right now.. Regards MM_Wombat Keep plugging away, it is fun learning But can be expensive (if you keep blowing things up). Maximite, ColourMaximite, MM+ |

**** Off Topic **** To everyone who commented and for those that will later. Thank you for your kind thoughts and wishes for my Daughter. It is a hard time for all of us, especially her twin sister ( fraternal ), who can't understand why this has happened to her sister. To have to deal with this, whilst trying to do a double degree at University, to be a teacher, is a hard ask, and now it seems to have caught up with her. Her mobility, because of the four growths on her spine, or the inoperable growth in the sinus cavity, that has put pressure on the optic nerve, and blinded her in the left eye. Limited sight and mobility doesn't bode well. The soft tissue cancer is everywhere in her system, and her mobility is suffering, as well as her comfort. She has been talking to another sufferer of the same type of cancer from America, via facebook, and has heard her story of her ordeals from the last 4 Years, so she has hope, that it can be slowed. Again thank you for your concern and thoughts. ****** Back on Topic ***** Regards MM_Wombat Keep plugging away, it is fun learning But can be expensive (if you keep blowing things up).
