Could someone refresh my grey cells (I am thinking they are static and not dynamic), what it the highest version of MMBasic that will run on a 270 chip?

Hi Mr Valve,

I am not familiar with the '270 ever being used as an MMBasic form. (That is not to say it cant be flashed into a MX270)

The Micromite started on the MX150 then the MX170. Now the MX470.

Kind Regards,

Mick

Gday Mick, I not sure of the reference to valve, I thought I was a semiconductor.

When Geoff originally did the MMBasic for the 170 chips I ordered some from MicroBlox but he mistakenly sent some 270's. At the time I wasn't to concerned as they would take version 4.6 with the only drawback of loosing 2 i/o's (the usb pins) I have a project that is using these chips and I would like to upgrade to use the power save feature implemented more recently.

Version 4.5E for the PIC32MX150F128 chip also supports the MX250 chip. You can download it from here: http://geoffg.net/micromite.html#Downloads

The latest version (V5.2) for the MX170 also supports the MX270.

In both cases the USB functionality is ignored and you loose two I/O pins.

Ok, Sorry Mr. Germanium Diode..

I went by your avatar without doing a Dr Google first... (Looked like a glass valve)

I would suggest that you could use the latest 5.2 version in that case as the 250 was a 150 with the USB pins so I assume the 270 is a 170 with the two USB pins..

Thanks Geoff and Mick. I will consider that my grey cells have had two refresh cycles.

On the subject of valves, I remember them described as a
GLASS ENCAPSULATED FET WITH AN INBUILT PILOT LIGHT.

A note about MX270 and MMBasic.

If you try to use an MX270 in the Micromite Backpack you will get the MM prompt OK. But when you try to configure the LCD screen you will get

> OPTION LCDPANEL ILI9341,L,2,23,6
Error: Pin 23 is invalid
>

Apparently Pin 23 is reserved for the USB port and is unusable. I found out the hard way when SC mistakenly included an MX270 chip with my kit instead of a 170.

The 270 chip is otherwise quite usable.

From MMBasic User Manual (v5.2) page 5
Quote  The firmware will also run on the PIC32MX270F256 series of chips. These have built in USB (which is not supported in the Micromite) and therefore you lose access to two I/O pins (pins 15 and 23) which are used in the chip for dedicated USB functions. In addition pins 21 and 22 are not 5V tolerant.

I did look but I did not see it. (It seems to be a more common excuse these days)
