Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hackaday are doing a series of articles on using I2C devices here.
They've also referenced a TI Application Note that shows how to properly calculate the pullup needed. Useful stuff.

Very interesting.

Can anyone throw up some "bucket figures" on what's "Long" cable runs & when issue are expected?

Here I typically have a mix of phone, security & shielded data cable.

Lengths can range from under 2m, up to around 10m.

Some very loose recommendations on lengths & cable types would be valuable for the less electronically inclined.

(Personally I wouldn't have a clue about the capacitance of my cables & their expected reliability).

Thanks

The Hackaday article has some info on what's a long or short cable. It's down in the comments area under the article.
