Does anyone know if it is possible to get a 1.8" LCD with touch on it, so I can make a very small touch panel thing?

I have a feeling that touch only starts at about 2.2".....

Anything bigger then 1.8" will not fit in the case I plan to use, so it HAS to be 1.8", or smaller OLED display would also be fine - but it needs to have touch.

Anyone got any ideas?

I think you are out of luck there G... But, is the user feedback possible maybe using
an encoder with a push button..? Works for me. It depends on what you are trying to do

I used it just fine with Ed's welder control...

Yeah, I think you might be right too, but it never hurts to ask.

I liked the idea of a small panel with only a couple of buttons, for the next project, which is in a small case. I will continue to search, but yeah - all I have found are standard LCD's in the 1.44" and 1.8" sizes, but without any touch.

I guess it is kinda pointless - a screen of that size makes implementing any touch controls almost impossible due to the tiny screen footprint - that is my guess anyway.

I was looking for 8" this morning & I stumbled across 1.8" touch.

Have a look here.

Phil.

I should have thought of "BuyDisplay" - they have a HUGE range of LCD's.

I knew that........

Thanks for the prod.

You could mount the display on four buttons. And then detect a press that way. :)

Grogster (et al),
I too have been looking for a small instrument display to show vehicle speed (nnn.n).
I can't find simple LCDs big enough and the normal TFT LCD panels are too big - 1.8 should be about right. Touch would be good for setup etc.
Please forgive my ignorance (I have only recently started out with the LCD backpack) but I assume that I would only need the 1.8 breakout board version with header pins and the touch option (ie I don't need the Arduino options?). I'd need to build a circuit to support it - or would the Arduino options help?
(I guess the question is what will you be ordering?)

Also, could you please keep us posted as to how it turns out?

Thanks and cheers, Andrew

Yes, that is the exact module I plan to buy.

There is no option for selecting the optional touch screen feature in the webpage, so I have sent them an email asking how I actually go about ordering the 1.8" module WITH the touch feature.

I have not had any reply yet, but will let you know what they come back with.

matherp indicates that the 9163 driver would need a little tweak to allow it to use the full 160x128 resolution, but he may well be able to come to the party on this if it is not too much trouble to do.

Thanks Grogster - I'll be patient and await further advice (Easter will slow their response a little). Cheers, Andrew

Yes, Cyclone Cook is tracking right down the country tonight and tomorrow. Will be off the coast of us tomorrow at about noon.

It is predicted to be rather strong, but I don't think it is predicted to be as destructive as some of those ones that hit America can be - thankfully.....

I have had a reply from BuyDisplay dot com, and it is as follows:

Sorry, We don't have the resistive touch panel for ER-TFTM018-2, May you consider to customize it from us? If yes, We will quote you USD420.00 for the new tooling cost, and we promise you the tooling cost could be returned if you palce the order no less than 1000pcs per lot after sample confirmation.

Waiting for your comment.

So, a nice offer, but I don't want a thousand of them!!!!

So at this stage, I have dropped the 1.8" touch LCD idea as being unpractical and/or uneconomic for my purposes.

Hi Grogster,
Thanks for that - it's a shame but I agree. Have I got it wrong that they advertised touch as an option but then it isn't?
Back to plan C unless someone can suggest a B.
Cheers, Andrew

No, you have it correct. They DO advertise touch as being an optional extra for these displays, but then it would seem it is not, cos they want to re-tool and expect you to purchase 1000 units minimum - then they will do it.

Perhaps that is what they mean by "Optional" - it is optional, but you have to buy in bulk to make use of that option.
