I suppose you are wondering about the above image. Well the valve on the left is an AK1 octode that was part of an historic shipment to Australia from Philips in Holland
in April 1935.
These valves were cutting edge technology in their day and were in very short supply. They sent 4000 of them weighing 1/2 ton BY AIR, using Imperial Airways, K.L.M., QANTAS and New England Airways. I am lucky enough to own one of the few remaining.
They are identified by the sticker placed around the base of the valve.
The sticker reads..
"THIS PHILIPS VALVE WAS PART OF A HALF TON AERIAL SHIPMENT HANDLED BY IMPERIAL AIRWAYS, K.L.M. AIRWAYS, Q.A.N.T.A.S AND NEW ENGLAND AIRWAYS AND WHICH ESTABLISHED A WORLD'S RECORD IN AERIAL FREIGHTING AND FOR DISTANCE, WEIGHT AND SPEED. ARRIVED SYDNEY 5/4/35- 13 DAYS FROM EUROPE."

They arrived in Sydney on 5th April 1935 and it took 13 DAYS
The PCB from WW took 16 DAYS to arrive from England in 2017.
Great advances in Electronics but the Postal Service ???

16 Days isn't too bad from o'seas.
It normally takes that long for something to get to Melbourne from Sydney using the post.....

I love this comparison of old and new stuff like this.

I expect there is A LOT more air freight now then in 1935, so that probably explains the three days difference - volume of freight now vs then.
Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops!

That AK1 definitely looks like a suspicious item.

No doubt customs, Federal Police, the terrorist squad and ASIO would all be involved if you tried to ship something that looks like that into Australia these days.

While in most of western Europa there is a service for same day, or next day delivery for about 6 euro.
Within Thailand it takes about 1-3 days nationwide (even small villages) for packages arrive. Price can be as low as 40 baht (2 AUS$).

Microblocks. Build with logic.
