This is just a "heads up" to say that Everyday Practical Electronics (EPE) magazine in the UK seems to have finally got behind the Micromite.

I wrote a series of three articles on the Micromite for their February, March and April 2017 issues and they followed up by reprinting the Silicon Chip article on the Micromite LCD Backpack in their May 2017 issue and the Parking Assistant in the current issue (June 2017). Presumably they will follow on with other Micromite projects reprinted from SC (Boat Computer, etc).

It was the backpack and projects based on it in Silicon Chip that has caused a huge surge in interest in the Micromite and hopefully the same will happen in the UK (and keep WW busy).

BTW I don't get much from this activity. Silicon Chip don't pay much, EPE even less and EPE pay nothing (to me) when they reprint articles. I view this as just a fun hobby and a vehicle for promoting the Micromite.

Next the USA? Nuts and Volts?

I tried that. They stated a policy that all the source code be made publically available.

They cover the PICAXE. Perhaps they meant that for applications, all source code must be available.

I tried convincing them of that. I used the PICAXE as an example and even referenced a N&V article where only the app code was available.

The response was that things slipped by in the past before they made their guidelines more strict and that their readers will want all of the source to be available so that they can tinker with it.

If this is a misunderstanding on their part (which means that the person stating their policy doesn't understand the concept of source and isn't representing their business well) it is unfortunate for them. They need better articles.

So does that mean Microchip has to publish all their source code for their MCP2200 chip otherwise it will not be used?
That would satisfy the 'ALL' in that sentence. Or is 'ALL' only for the little guys?
If that is the case, Nuts and Volts will be on a very steep decline.

I ASSUME they refer to the MMBASIC source, in this case. This is available for anyone who asks for it. Problem solved, yes?

(i doubt it is quite that easy by the sound of it, but hey...)
