Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I had issues running various basic emulators ( I run Linux on my systems) under wine

That one didnt work so well in wine, locked up every other time I tried to run a program :-(

Main reason I been playing around is to replace several remotes, I have to replace a set of front gate remotes and garage remotes for 4 different users, which currently requires leaving a remote in the letterbox to open the gates... not good for security or convenience
They also want to have the drive and outside lights come on when the gate is opened when they are coming in, but not when they are going out, and would like to be able to let friends open the gates as well when visiting....

At first I was thinking rfid fobs, but they really werent looking easy, so currently I'm leaning towards a Arduino powered system. I couldnt be bothered learning C, and found that the arduino can actually run basic, so doing it in that instead.
Another setup that may be of interest to some people is I am using the various peoples mobiles to activate the system to open the appropriate garage door, gates, lights etc from http://www.blynk.cc/ - a nifty app that lets you use a mobile with wifi to control various outputs on many cpus, and unlike the first few I found this one actually has a downloadable local server ( http://docs.blynk.cc/#blynk-server-how-to-run-local-blynk-server-launch-blynk-server-on-raspberry-pi ), so no internet connection is required to run it
At this stage it looks like I might be running several arduinos and for various functions- one in the garage to run roller door motors and lights, another at front gate for security and probably video intercom system as well up to a third in the house that can control the gate and see/talk to the gate intercom

It started out so simple- just open and close a gate, and now its turning into a monster, I can see it turning into a full home automation system if I'm not careful

Rapidq basic interpreter - 32bit ONLY - Windows98 -> Windows10:
Rapidq binaries 4.5MByte plus example code plus extras
FreeQ IDE (written in Rapidq basic)
Optional:
Yahoo Rapidq group (membership required)

The IDE is written in Rapidq and source code is available. Can also be used to compile
other Windows "Basics" eg FreeBasic. Has a Form designer, which can generate Rapidq
source code or FreeBasic source code. Also comes with a Rapidq debugger and some
other useful programming tools. Lots of example code available.

I have run the IDE/form designer and some programs using Linux Mint 17 and Wine.
An old favorite...

Edit: Linux binaries exist in first link but ignore these as they never kept pace
with the windows version and are pretty much useless for any serious work.
