This hack looks interesting for possible expansion of MatherP's Pi-cromite. The on-board Pi SD has to stay 'fixed' to run the operating system but now you can add another SD card pretty easily. If you read the 'comments' following the article it explains why it's now available. You can't use the wifi of the PI3 or Zero-W at the same time though it seems.

I'm probably missing something fundamental here re Peter's Pi-cromite implementation but I guess he'll soon let us know.
