Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Morning forum. Top tip (hopefully)

I have tons of MM devices where I bring the console connection to a stock 3.5mm stereo socket and then when I need to visit to check things I have a USB-Serial device with a 3.5mm jack plug on the end. Saves having to use a CH340G (or similar) in every unit and it is a more enduring connector than USB (or worse-yet, micro usb).

Using an OTG (USB Host adaptor) for my android phone (or a tablet), the cable above and this bit of software I can connect with my phone - this is really nice because it means you don't have to lug a laptop to every service call - simple comms to investigate is really easy and you only have to bring out the big guns when really necessary. It natively supports CP2102, PL2303 and CH2340G.

Some OTG cables are really dodgy and seem to come with intermittent connections built in but I bought a couple of these ones to try out and it all went together perfectly.

I have no affiliation with any of the above items at all, just wanted to spread some good news.

As an aside here - if you do the above and you have a power LED on the USB-Serial adaptor, take it off to extend your phone's battery. you can see in the app if the device is connected.Edited by CaptainBoing 2017-09-30
