Hello,
Time to put away the calculator and cut some fingers.

I have a small Ametek 30 based test turbine that I play around with. Various blade testing and data aq test bed. Had it up to 70 watts so far with my feeble wind site. (on ebay that means I would have to list it as a 1000 W max output turbine ---very small text----rated at 250 mph)

I have used various blades from TLG's to homemade PVC, to some ebay Hornet clones. I think it is time to carve some wood ones to see what all the hoopla is about.

I was thinking that Hugh's 4 ft design would be good for this motor, with a cut in of about 400 rpm.

So some questions for the experts.

1.) I have both Hugh's book and the Danseses (that's a hard word to pluralize) book. Their recipe is slightly different. Any thoughts as to which is best?

2) Can this blade perform well in lower winds? I realize there isn't much power there but can I make it to cut-in during gusts of say 10 mph?

Here's a test one I made last night from Hughes plans. It was great fun and I felt like some guy carving an airplane propeller 100 years ago.

It might be a bit hard to balance with one blade.
Just kidding.
Nice work
It looks like a bought one.
I will leave the question asked to the experts.

Pete.
Sometimes it just works

A little blur and bad lighting can make anything look good from a distance. Same strategy I use for online dating.

Honestly it turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. I know it pales in comparison to you guys that have carved a 10 ft blade but you always remember the first one you made.

Looks ideal for an axial flux.

I suspect that a constant chord, or wider tip version may help with that style of motor.... but that is without experience of the ameteks.

nice job
