Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Being a newbie and all, I thought I would post a pick of my wind gen controls. It’s been evolving since day one. We have a lot of power outages out here in the sticks so I have set it up as a storage/supplemental power. I use the big variac transformer as my back up battery charger should there be such a need. I have it wired into a homemade full wave bridge. You can see the black finned set just left of the fluke. The box with the green digital readout is my pickaxe chip programmed as a charge controller. The analog meter is my amp in amp out reading to the battery bank. Just to the left of the amp meter are the two bridges from the two GE Fanuc servo motors on the towers. The battery bank is from an electric fork lift. It was set up as 36v but pulled out all the 2v cells and re-wired for 12v. Next big upgrade is going to be a 240v inverter. Any input as to what to buy would be greatly appreciated.

On a side note the 1.5f cap I got for next to nothing on Craig’s list so I wired it in thinking it would help out a little regarding surges.

Also I have never been able to figure out what the amprage rating is on the 2v cells. They are Crown?.

Thanks in advance for any input regarding my set up.

Hi Dupa

Good looking setup. The supercap across the batteries is a good idea, if you have one you might as well use it. The CSIRO here in Australia has developed what they call the "SuperBattery", basically a lead acid battery with super capacitors built in, as part of the battery plates! Link.

My only concern is mounting so much gear above the batteries, if something falls off the wall or you drop a screwdriver, ZAP! Maybe a battery cover could be added.

Thanks Gizmo
Your right. I should make a battery cover.
I have already smoked one of my screw drivers.
