Hi, i've been enjoying browsing through this forum and I'm going to try to build one asap but where does I start? I decided on a VAWT and i'm thinking of building my own pmg and that's as far as I got, so, are there any discussions here that I have missed that would clear things up for me? Off I go to search for battery disscusions! Thanks, James |

Hi James Everyone needs to start small. Have you built a MiniMill? http://www.thebackshed.com/windmill/assemblyMini1.asp VAWT's are often chosen by beginners because they appear to be easier to make, but dont be fooled. Start with a HAWT windmill, they are easier to build and give better results in most situations. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Thanks Glenn That's the first time I've seen that MiniMill and I do like it. As for deciding on the VAWT, well, I guess I decided many years ago but there was nothing on the web, however, there's a lot more info now like the Lenz2. I would be afraid to build a HAWT because of the height I would have to go and how close my neighbours are and from what I read, noise. But, that part is on the back burner and what I think i'm trying to do is understand the power side of wind generation. Like, controllers and storage, how much storage I would need for what ever I decide to use it for and what type of generator, I have been thinking that I would build a PMG. So, more browsing this forum. Thanks for you reply, James |

Let me suggest an F&P PMA to start with as they are inexpensive (worth a little more than the price of the copper)and will make 400 W+ in a good blow or 50-100W all day every day -if you like. Good luck and happy hunting! Luck favours the well prepared |

Thanks Karl, I have been enjoying the hunt. I been seeing this F&P all over this site but just found out what it is. Is this design just in that washer or are all washers like this? I think I might know the answer? I don't think i've seen anything like that here in Canada. Also, is the F&P used for large windmills? WHat would be the smallest HWAT that a F&P would work on?
