Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi Guys I have a 48 volt wind generator and my inverter is 12 volt.
I was going to wire up some switches so that I can change batteries from 12 volt connection to 48 volt connection.
Will this do any damage if windgenerator was connected to the bank of batteries when it was only 12 volt?
The inverter realy only gets used 1 day per week where the generator will be hooked to 12 volt for the day.
Thanks
Darren

It should not hurt the alternator.
But it will be hardly worth hooking the thing up, as it should stall heavily and produce almost no power at 12v. Your asking the blades to produce power at 1/4 the normal TSR.... maybe the first few amps, then you will need a gale to do much better. It will also depend on the internal resistance of your stator.... but should be very very tame.
