just so google finds it ..
How to regulate a Fisher & Paykel smart drive
how is the most efficient way to regulate a f&p smart drive?

Iv bult a smart drive wind turbine and have tryed regulating the voltage with a universal electronic power supply (110-240v ac to 12v dc) and it works realy well at high speeds it even workes on DC!

is this the most efficient way to do it? and i want to charge a 48v battery bank can i change the out put of a switchmode power supply easly?

Hi Junkee

Can you give us some more details as to what you are doing with the FP it sounds from the voltage you quote that you are running it without reconfiguring the windings.

All the best

Hi junknerd,

Welcome to the forum.

As many do you are going about this backwards.

You are generating a high voltage at low amps and then converting this to lower voltage at higher amps.

Simply you loose at every step of the way, and results in a output less than input.

What is done, is to reconfigure the stator coil windings to better suit the voltage range needed and giving higher amperage output for rpm.

Have a look on the front page to the web site for a link to F&P.

Pete.

Thanks guys

I realise that with any conversion u lose power but my battery shed is about 400m away from my weel and there is already a 3core 6mm cable buryed under ground
and im scared of the voltage drop sorry i didnt include this when i started

yes i have seen the rewire methods, what would work better star or delta?
and can i wire it so it puts out single phase?
