I know I have not finished my 2nd windmill project, but I thought I would start thinking about my 3rd. I’m not even sure it is possible yet. I have had this motor for several years & not sure it even works. But thought I would give it a try. The plan is to take it apart & see if I can get it working again. The only thing I know about it is, it is a Westinghouse & weighs maybe 150-200 pounds. Please let me know if you guys have any knowledge about this motor & if it is even worthwhile diving into it. Here are the pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hi MKHPhillips, I would steer away from this motor. Its old, too heavy, and will give poor results. It looks like a series wound motor, DC most likely, or a DC generator. Some of the early wind turbines used a similar ( and lighter ) motor/generator, but not in the last few decades. take a look at ebay for ac servo motors. find something with low rpm's hi volts and amps. you will find something more efficient and weighs less than that old motor there. URL=http://www.motherearthnews.com/Renewable-Energy/1973-11- 01/The-Plowboy-Interview.aspx>The Plowboy Interview[/URL> |
