Hi, I've been experimenting with the different stator rewiring for my 7 phase 12v windmill.
The 3x2C was too slow and it would run stalled.
I then tried the 6x1C, this was too fast as the RPM/voltage would become uncontrolled in high winds and blow the fuse in the controller. Which wiring is in between? Has anyone graphed the cut-in RPM of all the combinations?
Thanks in advance for any help.

You could try a staggered stator set up, using a combination of 3x2c and 6x1c. A 1x2c and a 4x1c. That way it would use the 1x2c in light winds to generare a couple of amps, but without loading the turbine too much. Then as the rpm rises, the 4x1c starts to work.

Staggered stators on a 7 phase is going to be rats nest of wiring though, and you'll need a 2nd 7 phase bridge rectifier, but it should work. Never been tried as far as I know. This page explains staggered stator, for 3 phase, but the same princible would apply for 7 phase. http://www.thebackshed.com/Windmill/articles/StaggeredStator s.asp

Have fun.

Thanks for the help Glenn. I just had a thought. Do you think converting my 3x2C to Delta would help speed it up? This would be a bit easier than the staggered option too.

I think Delta for 7 phase is not as simple as delta for 3 phase. No experience sorry, cant even start to make a suggestion.

Could you try bigger blades on the 3x2c? A bit more torque.
