My friend just gave me a 5000 watt ac generator head off a gas home generator, Any idea if these work on a windmill ? This generator has brushes and no Magnets. I still can't wrap my head around a Mag - less generator and how they work. |

The magnetic field is created by an electromagnet (field windings). That type of generator would need serious modification to work effectively as a wind generator. You may better to sell it and use the money to buy something more suitable. There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't. |

Agree with Madness, no go for a wind turbine. Better of selling it, or using it with a petrol/diesel motor as a backup generator. The problem is they are designed to run within a small RPM range, which is way faster than a wind tubine can provide. I agree with the other guys;I've got one & it needs a 5HP petrol motor to run it, only useful in a complete power outage & guzzles gas like it's going out of fashion. I need to learn from the mistakes of others. I dont have the time to make them all myself. |
